Pacific Lumber Co. Names New President, Promotes Board Chairman
SCOTIA, Calif. (AP) -- The Pacific Lumber Co. named Robert E. Manne its new president and chief executive Wednesday. Manne replaces John A. Campbell, who was promoted to board chairman.

Manne was executive vice president of Plum Creek Timber Co., a subsidiary of Burlington Resources Inc. [NYSE:BR - news], where Campbell said he initiated that company's landmark habitat conservation plan.

The experience will help as Pacific Lumber establishes its own conservation plan as part of its Headwaters Agreement involving old-growth timber on California's north coast, Campbell said.

Manne will join the boards of both Pacific Lumber and Scotia Pacific Co., while Campbell will remain on both boards. Campbell served 15 years as president and has spent more than 30 years with Pacific Lumber.

Pacific Lumber is a subsidiary of Houston-based Maxxam Inc. [AMEX:MXM - news], which also owns Kaiser Aluminum Corp.
