The digester system was comprised of nine
flash tanks all of which received extensive damage. The explosion scattered caustic
material containing sodium hydroxide throughout a large area of the plant. The material
was cleaned up and the area stabilized under the direction of the Louisiana State Police,
Hazardous Materials Division
